"Military Service as Revealed in Census Records"
This program will explore the use of the "Veterans' Questions" in various Federal Census Records, especially 1890. Responses to those queries can be important in identifying the military service of one's ancestors. Pension Laws which were enacted to provide for those who served in the Union Army will also be examined. The men who applied often provided detailed information concerning their lives after the war, thereby allowing genealogists to connect them to other people and to specific locales.
